Dont Cry Joni -Fareez Mamood

Dont Cry Joni

Woman- Jimmy please say you'll wait for me
I'll grow up someday you'll see
Saving all my kisses just for you
Signed with love forever true.

Man - Joni was the girl who lived next door
I've known her I guess ten years or more.
Joni wrote me a note one day.
And this is what she had to say.

Woman-Jimmy please say you'll wait for me
I'll grow up someday you'll see
Saving all my kisses just for you
Signed with love forever true.

Man- Slowly I read her note once more
Then I went over to the house next door
Her tear-drops fell like rain that day
When I told Joni what I had to say.

Man- Joni, Joni please don't cry
You'll forget me by and by
You're just fifteen and I'm twenty two,
and Joni I just can’t wait for you.

Man - Soon I left our little home town,
Got me a job and tried to settle down
But these words kept haunting my memory,
the words that Joni said to me.

Woman- Jimmy please say you'll wait for me
I'll grow up some day you'll see
Saving all my kisses just for you
Signed with love forever true.

Man - I packed my clothes and I caught a plane
and I had to see Joni. I had to explain,
how my heart was filled with her memory
and ask my Joni if she'd marry me

I ran all the way to the house next door
but things weren't like they were before
My tear-drops fell like rain that day
When I heard what Joni had to say.

Woman- Jimmy, Jimmy please don't cry
You'll forget me by and by.
It's been five years since you've been gone
Jimmy, I - (married) - your best friend John.

  1. [[RANT ALERT!!!]] I'm not going to lie... I didn't really enjoy this one (but that doesn't matter! my word is not the final word :P). I actually enjoyed the song aspect, because I love how country songs tell a story like no other genre... but the situation just doesn't seem special to me. It was a young girl with "puppy love" for her older neighbor. He leaves, gets lonely and thinks Gee I'll go find that girl who said she loved me when she was like...fifteen! Too bad though, because she's grown up and got together with his best friend (what kind of best friend doesn't tell you he got married). And just because the girl is a few years older and married, it doesn't mean the relationship with her husband is true love either. BUT... it is a good story for someone who currently sees themselves falling for someone they can't have. It shows that time passes, people move on, and things will eventually fall into place.

  2. I defiantly agree with what Cristina is saying. I had no real problem with this poem/song... but I do find this story very lame/not related to me. I guess some people would like it because its about some girl that is falling in love with someone older than her but I find things like that to be pretty lame... I feel this girl needs to grow up and mature some and not only her but her so called crush too because who in the world goes looking for some chick that said she liked him five years ago... geez I'm going stop...

  3. This poem is about maturity and life experience. The man, who was more mature, told her that she would forget about him but she would't listen. As expected, life happened and she ended up marrying someone else. The only thing that went wrong was that the men fell for her in the end.

  4. ok, first off cristina has just made all my posts sound and look like crap but i actually loved this poem. it has so many meanings and they all can be the authors intended meaning but i think that the man in this poem was given a taste of his own medicine and kind of represents spite which comes up plenty of times n relationships and love situations

  5. I think this song/poem is very interesting. I think it shows a common story of hearts who arent align because the two people in this poem obviously love each other but arent able to make it work at the same time.
Furthermore, I will like to add that i think the last verse could be read with a little irony and maybe a little revenge... i feel that the exact repetition gives that effect

  6. Jimmy, Jimmy dont you cry.

Here's what i feel like she's saying in the last stanza:

Oh Jimmy, NOW you wanna come back after you ripped my heart out and stepped on it and ripped it into pieces. I wasnt good enough for you to wait on, huh? Well now you come craaawwllinng back, you fool, ha! look who's crying now. I married John. And im happy. Now go groveling back to the pit you came from. You'll get over me too, sweetie. HA HA HA!

^^ thats exactly how she feels.
