ANDREA GUERRA IDENTITY

Identity and Imagination

Identity and imagination, two faculties engaged in being,

Defined in conflict and shattered in sickness,

The first securing your bearings in the swell of life's being

The latter your navigation in the past and future of seeming

Where you plan your existence and futurity

Making your life irresponsible or a road to maturity;

Both necessary to poise of stability

And reaches deep to the bedrock of stability.

>>> “IDENTITY UNCOVERED” <<< (Ha-ha....! ! !)

You can’t run and hide any more…..,

We’ve got our crosshairs on you….,

Thought you were slick….,

But we’ve foiled your clever trick…..,

Now listen to the clock tick….,

Cause your time is running out….,

And you’re more nervous every minute….,

Because you put your foot in it….,

Now at the precise moment……,

You will be revealed…..,

And everyone will discover…..,

The identity you’ve concealed…….! ! !

Identity by A. R. Ammons

1) An individual spider web

identifies a species:

an order of instinct prevails

through all accidents of circumstance,

though possibility is

high along the peripheries of

spider

webs:

you can go all

around the fringing attachments

and find

disorder ripe,

entropy rich, high levels of random,

numerous occasions of accident:

2) the possible settings

of a web are infinite:

how does

the spider keep

identity

while creating the web

in a particular place?

how and to what extent

and by what modes of chemistry

and control?

it is

wonderful

how things work: I will tell you

about it

because

it is interesting

and because whatever is

moves in weeds

and stars and spider webs

and known

is loved:

in that love,

each of us knowing it,

I love you,

for it moves within and beyond us,

sizzles in

to winter grasses, darts and hangs with bumblebees

by summer windowsills:

I will show you

the underlying that takes no image to itself,

cannot be shown or said,

but weaves in and out of moons and bladderweeds,

is all and

beyond destruction

because created fully in no

particular form:

if the web were perfectly pre-set,

the spider could

never find

a perfect place to set it in: and

if the web were

perfectly adaptable,

if freedom and possibility were without limit,

the web would

lose its special identity:

the row-strung garden web

keeps order at the center

where space is freest (intersecting that the freest

"medium" should

accept the firmest order)

and that

order

diminishes toward the

periphery

allowing at the points of contact

entropy equal to entropy.

  1. (Are these three poems? I’m commenting on the one with ellipses…)

I know a lot of people are one thing but put on a façade as if they are someone else. To me, this poem is about when your lies catch up to you and the anxiety one would feel before being revealed. The ellipses and reference to a ticking clock lead up to the grand revelation. This specific poem brings up the sham of a false identity, and I think a false identity isn’t even a real identity.

  2. ummmmmmmm ya, im lost but the middle section was very intresting. it reminds me of an undercover agent whose been apprehended by the enemy and is about to be exposed. it goes to show us that our identity can not only be stolen but also used against us

  3. I feel the same as Chevar, I too saw the second poem...I think...to be like a secret agent who has been discovered and is about to get his cover blown (o snap). I like how the author uses the word crosshairs because it adds the feeling that he's going to be snipped, but not literally, its more like he's being closely watched and he's going to be "exposed"...or something...

  4. *Plays Mission Impossible Music* --Rollls on floor NINJA style---

well, this poem is obviously about a ninja. They wear ski masks so no one figures them out. (im not really sure how many poems there were...but yeah) I liked the ellipses..they made me feel sneaky and mysterious. Yes they did.

  5. I like the poem about the spider and how a spider makes its web truly unique. I think its very interesting poem that takes into account the location of the web and the spider web itself. I think the poem has a very interesting tone and it is nice how this metaphor about the spider and its identity can be transfered to the human experience of identity and individuality.

  6. i see what gaston meant in this poem. the spider metaphor was an excellent one. it portrayed the authors thoughts excellently in a very nice and neat metaphor, also it was very original.

  7. To me, "Identity And Imagination" is providing us with a very important message. It is telling us that we must be true to ourselves because eventually you will be exposed and you may lose yourself in the process.
