I feel you in the morning
When at first I awake
Your thought is with me
With each decision I make
You'd been around forever
Since the first breath I took
Now I have to go on alone
But for love, I need not look
Cause by what you bestowed
In our short time together
Will last in my heart
Forever and ever
Although you've left
And now walk above
I'm never alone
I'm wrapped in your love
Enjoy now your long waited reward
Feel peace that your love continues on
What was taught to me, will be taught to mine
Cause you live on in me even after you've gone

ReplyDelete-I usually like darker poems, and I expect poems about death to be dark, but this one was very cute
-You can tell the poet was writing about a parent, or influential elder figure in his life. It wasn't the typical I-lost-my-girlfriend-boo-hoo poem.
-It's hard not to smile especially after "enjoy now your long waited reward", because it gives a positive outlook on the afterlife.
This authoe leads me to believe that the subject of this poem is his mother. This poem is nostaglia at its best. It is draped with warm feelings and positive thoughts. I can relate to this poem because it helps me cope with lost loved ones.
ReplyDeleteLike Cristina I also find this poem to be quite optimistic to such a "dark" topic... but its a good optimistic? Other than just what the poem says, its the message behind it too. Death doesn't necessarily have to be all sad, but it can also remind you of the good memories you once shared with that beloved someone... like what Gaston was saying about his uncle...
ReplyDeleteShort, sweet and optimistic. This undying hope I find is absolutely appealing and sets us apart from many other animals as higher thinking creatures. When we think about it, what keeps a POW alive? Hope to see his family? What keeps those lost at sea from giving up? The hope to see his beloved girlfriend? I cannot help but smile at the optimism the author has about death. No one has ever experienced it and come back to tell us. For all I know it can be an absolute nightmare of nothing but torture for our souls who loose their bodies and are left to wander among the earth forever in mournful sadness. Or we sleep on in blissful slumber with our buried bodies as easily as a child in his mother's arms. This hope for the relative receiving the goodness in death, something completely unknown, is something profound.
ReplyDeleteThis poem is very sentimental. To me its soft. Its very sweet and it makes me reminisce of one of my aunty passing.
ReplyDelete"You'd been around forever
Since the first breath I took
Now I have to go on alone
But for love, I need not look"
This is the stanza that hits most.
I like the definite rhyme scheme this poem has. It is a Love and loss poem but since the loss has to do with someone passing away then it does link to the death theme. It is very sentimental and deep and makes the reader feel sorry for the narrator that has clearly lost somebody close to him or her.
