Faith BY FRANCES ANNE KEMBLE

Better trust all, and be deceived,
And weep that trust, and that deceiving;
Than doubt one heart, that, if believed,
Had blessed one’s life with true believing.

Oh, in this mocking world, too fast
The doubting fiend o’ertakes our youth!
Better be cheated to the last,
Than lose the blessèd hope of truth.

  1. It's not easy to put total faith in something, and this poem shows that others might try and knock you down, or hurt you, and it's hard to keep trust in something when your surroundings encourage you not to. She points out that faith is something that can bring alot of haope and happiness to life, but the hurt that it can cause because of others is just as significant. I think someone who can truly be dedicated to one faith is very strong, because as we mentioned in class, it's very hard to trust people, and that can hurt your faith.
